Despite Dispossession: An Activity Book – IN TRANSLATION

Anette Baldauf, Janine Jembere, Naomi Rincón Gallardo, et al. (eds.)

AMHARIC / KURDISH / SPANISH / PORTUGUESE / TURKISH editions of Despite Dispossession: An Activity Book

In cities as diverse as Addis Ababa, Istanbul, Mexico City and Berlin, the concept of dispossession currently provides a key point of reference for activist, academics, and artists to engage with a wide scope of violent appropriations including colonial theft, corporate land grabbing, state facilitated resettlement, urban gentrification, etc. The collaborative and artistic Activity Book starts off from the contested realities and public struggles of the dispossessed. It offers subtle reflections, informal and ephemeral tactics of encroachment, and epistemic interventions. The project finds inspiration in epistemologies of the South, decolonizing methodologies and Black aesthetics, postulating that an art-based research that aims to unify knowing, doing, and feeling can grasp the complexity of dispossession, charging it up with resilience and resistance.
